How to Choose a Stamp?
History of ‘Stamping’
The stamp (and its usage) has a history that can be traced as far back as 3000BC. This was the time when stamps and seals came into use. During those days, verbal or written communication was not easy. This gave rise to the extensive use of stamps, and more common in those days, seals. These seals would usually come from a hand stamp or a ring to mark vital documents.
Some ancient civilizations, and later, some of the aboriginal cultures from the recent past, practiced a primitive form of rubber stamping to “mark and tattoo” images on their bodies.
The first modern usage of rubber stamps was seen as early as 1866, used to stamp information on bath tubs.
Types of Stamps
The ancient civilizations had stamps and seals made from an array of materials - stone, wood, bone and metals. Today such stamps and seals are most often made from rubber.
- Rubber Stamp - Here, information (seal of approval, receipt, address, art, logo, etc.) is carved onto a flat piece of rubber, and that is mounted onto a stable object like wood, acrylic, or metal make for efficient and easier usage. They need a separate ink pad.
- Self inking Stamps – Self inking stamps are an ‘evolved’ version of the original rubber stamp. These stamps don’t need a separate ink pad, and can be used, and re-used, giving you the same consistency every time.
While choosing a stamp, one must keep in mind the use of the stamp. For example, if you are looking for a stamp which would have to remain the same – a company seal, or a “NO EXCHANGE, NO REFUND” stamp, then you can prefer a relatively cheaper static rubber stamp.
If your work demands that you use the stamp repeatedly and want the impressions to be consistent, you would like to try the self inking stamps.

how to mount steer horns on my van?
i have a 1994 club wagon, and i have a set of 2' steer horns mounted on a piece of rectangle wooden block by two nails.
its not the strongest mount, so what i was thinking was to mount the horns on that block better, then cut out a matching rectangle piece of rubber to go under the wood, then with 2 nuts and bolts mount it on the hood..
but i thought i would get some ideas first. so if theres anyone out there thats done this before i would appreciate some pointers.
Even here in Texas that is a rare thing to do. But be sure to varnish the horns since they don't weather well. The best mount would be a commercial mount designed for the purpose. You didn't specify how you are mounting them but the traditional way is to attach the horns to each other with a tubular construct made of something like fiberglass (leather indoors) and then use that as the mounting point.
