A craft cutter machine is a very useful tool to make die cuts with different types of craft paper or cardstock. If you like making scrapbooks or other types of paper designs a craft cutter makes your work a lot easier. A machine like this makes shapes and fonts in a matter of seconds and the quality of the cuts are very precise and clean. Most of die cut machines you connect to your computer, just like a printer, but there are some cutters where you can do everything on the machine itself. For instance the Cricut Expression Personal Cutter is a good machine for that.
If you having a craft project with a lot of kids you can easily manage to make many different shapes your kids can participating to put together. The craft cutter comes in different sizes and features, so it's all up to you how you will use it and what you are going to use it for. If you need it for small die cuts you can go for a small one like Cricut Personal Cutter that can cut from a range of 1 inch to 5 1/2 inches in size, with 1 inch increments. If you like to cut bigger sizes you can go for Cricut Create Cutter. This craft cutter can cut shapes from 1/4 inch up to 11 inches in size. On top of that you have the Cricut Expression Personal Cutter which can cut from 1/4 inch up to 23 1/2 inches in size.
Now, before you start making shapes and letters you need to have a cartridge for your machine. The cartridge has templates of shapes and fonts stored inside which you can cut out in different sizes. There are a lot of different cartridges out on the market and they contain unique themes you can explore further for designing your artwork. One that is popular nowadays is the Cricut Storybook Cartridge you can plug in to your craft cutter. The Cartridge is very popular for making baby memories book and family scrapbooks, but off course you can use it for whatever you feel fits best.
So how do you operate a craft cutter? Usually the basic features are the same on each model. The more advanced features you will find on the larger and higher priced craft cutters. So if you have a basic craft cutter you will have no problems to operate the larger ones since the functions are basically the same.
Each craft cutter uses mats which you put the paper on. You then attach the mat to the machine and you set size of the shape and the place on the paper you want to cut it. Depending on the machine you can do all the settings on your computer or on your craft cutter. The craft cutter can cut in different thickness of paper all up to 0.5 mm thick paper. If you want to be even more creative you can use cardstock in different colors. It's a large supply of different colors and shapes so you can make incredible designs.
In the end I would just add my own experience with a craft cutter and that is it saves a lot of time for my scrapbook making and even though I was used to cut out with scissors and break a way knifes I'm nowhere near the accuracy of clean cuts than these machines do. It takes a bit time to learn the software and the machine in the beginning but it is easy to use and the learning curve is very easy so will enjoy and have fun even on your first project.
