Creating a scrapbook layout and eventually completing a full scrapbook is an excellent way to preserve your memories for decades to come. Besides photos, including such items as journaling, keepsakes, or cards in an artful way is a great way to be creative and show your self expression to pass on to future generations.
1. Choose the pictures with which you would like to create your layout with.
2. Go out and buy some lignin and acid free paper which will complement the themes and colors you have chosen for your scrapbook.
3. Create a border for you picture and be creative with it since it doesn't all have to be the same.
4. Glue your matted pictures to the background paper. Again use lignin and acid free glues or tape for the back of the pictures.
5. Decorate the page using embellishments like stickers, brads, glitter, or whatever else may catch your fancy.
6. Write any poems or reflections on either a separate page or around the photos. This will help keep the memory that much more clear in the years to come.
7. Make titles on each page that will bring the readers eyes to the layout. These can be made using a computer, your own hand or with templates.
Some tips to keep in mind while you pursue your hobby of creating a scrapbook. Always use lignin and acid free paper and adhesive. This will keep your pages from yellowing or deteriorating over time. Use Kodak backed photo paper as it too keeps from fading better than other photo paper. Always make copies of your pictures before beginning. This way, if you mess up while cutting, then your only copy will not be ruined.
Learning about creating a scrapbook is an excellent way to save and preserve your memories for many many years to come. Learning how to do it is not hard and you need not be a creative genius to do it either. For not much money and not much effort, one can easily take those old pictures out of storage and get them into a nice, well made, fun to look at scrapbook which anyone can enjoy looking at and reminiscing on.
